Start at the very beginning with the basics
Are you trying to market a product, or create an image for your company?
Let's go back to the beginning of your project. Did you follow basic advertising
and promotional strategies?
Here's a list to review. (I know this list may seem unexciting. You might
be surprised - after reading these basic elements, you may be inspired.)
- name
- does your name describe your company? Does it inform the customer
what type of business it is, does it say something about you, or is
it catchy?
- logo
- do you have a logo? Logos should reflect your business and
logos shouldn't be complicated. They should be simply designed and easy
to read. Think about the logos you see everyday: Coca-cola, The Gap
or Kleenex, most memorable logos have no graphics or only very streamlined
graphics.
- letter
head - make sure your letter head contains all the important
information; name, address, telephone and fax numbers, web site address
if you have one and e-mail address. The same goes for fax cover sheets,
invoices, purchase order forms....
- slogan
- a slogan should reflect your business, either by what type of business
you have or if you're targeting a specific sector within the industry.
A slogan should be short and it doesn't have to rhyme or have 300 different
meanings. Next, make sure you use your slogan in your advertising.
- signage
- it doesn't have to be large to be effective. No matter what business
you're in, people travel pass your property and they might as well know
it's a place of business. A sign also acts as a landmark and helps clients
find your business.
- yourself
- if you aren't pleasant, helpful and professional, why would
anyone want to do business with you or be a repeat customer? Listed
last, but the most important aspect of promoting your business, a professional
and pleasant demeanour.
These few items are vital when initiating a new venture, launching a new
product or reviewing your check list for business promotion. Remember,
first impressions are important. These simple steps will help you present
your business or product with a professional image.
Until next time,
Laurie
